The Missions Committee coordinates charitable efforts on behalf of the church.  If you have a project you wish to have
supported by our church, please contact a member of the Missions Committee or the church office.  

Current missions include:

  • Lighthouse Angel Tree - Nov. 21 - Dec. 12.  Please take a tag from the tree in the sanctuary.  Purchase a gift for that
    child and return it unwrapped by Dec. 12.  Please include a gift bag or wrap for the gift.

  • Interfaith Hospitality Network - assisting homeless families in Summit County, Ohio.  Every eleventh week Emmanuel
    UCC the host church by providing meals or supervision (spending the evening and/or overnight). For more information

    Next week for volunteers is Jan. 17, 2011.  Volunteers are needed Thursday, Friday and Saturday of that
    week for 3 evening meals, 3 7-10 pm shifts and 3 overnights.  Sign-up sheet is in the back of the sanctuary.

ONGOING MISSIONS

  • Williard UCC Food Pantry - Bring needed items such as cereal, snacks/treats, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products,
    diapers, non-perishable food items and cash donations to Emmanuel UCC the first Sunday of each month.The Pantry
    also provides food baskets at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.   Contact the church office if you wish to volunteer at
    the Food Pantry.  

  • Collecting aluminum can pulltabs - for the Akron Children's Hospital Dialysis Unit. The hospital recycles the tabs to
    receive money for transportation, games, puzzles, juice, etc. for patients to have while undergoing treatment. Please drop
    your tabs into the bowl located at the back of the sanctuary. (sponsored by Women's Fellowship)

  • Acme Community Cash Back - save your Acme register tapes (if they have Community Cash Back amounts listed at
    the bottom) from Sept. 25, 2010 to Feb. 10, 2011.  There is a collection box in the back of the sanctuary (sponsored by
    Women's Fellowship).

  • Souper Bowl Sunday  - collecting money on Super Bowl Sunday to feed the hungry

  • World Vision - feeding the hungry in the world's poorest countries

  • Shower for the Church - Items needed:  toilet paper, paper towels, foam/paper plates, liquid hand soap, kleenex, dish
    washing detergent

PAST MISSION PROJECTS

  • Crop Walk - Oct. 10, 2010.  Neighbors walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world.  Together we raise
    awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting.

  • Trick or Treat  - Oct. , 2010.  Students in grades 4-6 from Seiberling and Barber Elementary Schools will safely trick or
    treat at the church for candy and school supplies.  Drawings will be held for backpacks, 14 computers and other items.

  • School Kits for orphanage in NicaraguaDec., 2009

  • 2009 Mission Trip - Philadelphia, July 12-19, 2009.
